Manipur, Delhi, Orissa make it to quarter-finals:
Dehradun, Nov 28 : Manipur, Delhi and Orissa sailed into the quarter-finals of the 53rd National School Games (Under-17) Volleyball tournament on Wednesday.
Manipur won a close contest against Rajasthan 18-25, 25-19, 25-11 to make it to the last eight while Delhi defeated IPSC in straight sets 25-15, 25-12 and Orissa excelled over Assam 25-23, 25-12 in the boy’s category.
Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are the other teams to enter the quarter-finals in the boy’s section.
Haryana and Punjab topped Group A with 10 points each, Uttarakhand and Delhi topped Group B with 12and 10 points respectively. In Group C Uttar Pradesh (10 points) and Orissa (8 points) topped the chart, and Manipur (8) and Rajasthan (6) qualified from Group D.
In the quarter-finals, Haryana will clash with Orissa, UP would meet Punjab, Uttarakhand will face Rajasthan and Manipur would take on Delhi on November 29 (Thursday).
In the girl’s (U-17) category, Kerela, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Delhi and Tamil Nadu reached quarter-finals.
Madhya Pradesh and Himachal excelled in Group A earning 8 and 6 points respectively. In Group B, Punjab (10points) and Haryana (8 points) topped the chart. Karnataka (6) and Rajasthan (4) qualified from Group C and in Group D, Delhi (14) and Tamil Nadu (12) made it to the last eight.
Kerala will face Rajasthan, Karnataka will meet Himachal Pradesh, Punjab will taste Tamil Nadu and Delhi would face Haryana in quarter-finals tomorrow.
