Kaushik, Treta upset seeded players:
Guwahati, Nov 27: Kaushik Das of Assam caused another upset in the ongoing Indian Oil ITF Junior Tennis Championship at Chachal (All Assam Tennis Association) Tennis Complex here on the second day on Tuesday.
Kaushik defeated third seeded country mate Palash Tiwari 6-3, 6-3 in a second round match while Treta Bhattacharya stunned second seed Margarita Skripnik of Israel 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. However, other seeded players in both boys and girls section entered the third round with comprehensive victories against their opponents.
It was a mix day for Assam players as apart from Kaushik, other challengers, Rupam Gogoi and Anangsha Alomyan lost their battles against Gleb Sklyr of Israel and Richa Valecha respectively. Later fourth seed Olga Blank of Israel outplayed Richa 6-1, 6-1.
The boys second seed Adil Hakeem of Australia had an easy sail to the round three as he outsmarted Indian challenge Shahbaz Khan 6-1, 6-0. But the girls top seed Angelika Aliev of Israel had to struggle against Shweta Rana as the former won the match 6-9 (7-4), 6-3, 6-1. The experienced Israeli girl put up a spirited show in the second and third sets after losing the first one against her Indian counterpart.
The doubles matches were also started today.
