Filip to clash with Hakim in final; Kaushik bows out:

Guwahati, Nov 29: India’s last hope in the boys’ singles in the Indian Oil ITF Junior World Ranking Tennis Championship Kaushik Das bowed out of the tournament after losing the semi-final tie against Lewicki Filip of Poland at the Chachal Tennis Complex on Thursday.

Filip will now meet Adil Hakim of Australia in the title clash scheduled for Friday. In the girls’ title clash, Angelika Aliev of Israel will meet Alieva Sevil of Azerbaijan.

Kaushik was in tremendous form throughout the tournament and played some superb tennis on his way to the semi-finals. He was brilliant today too, but a few errors in the crunch situation lost him the match. Filip won the match 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to enter the final.

Kaushik, who paired with Monal Chillar, also lost the doubles semi-final match against S Piotr and M Adam 6-4, 7-6.

On the other hand in the second semi-final, Alieva Sevil of Azerbaijan didn’t have to fight hard to beat Sklyr Gleb of Israel and won the match in straight sets 7-6, 6-2.

In the girls’ semi-final, Angelika Aliev had to struggle hard to beat her opponent Teltumbde Rashmi but Alieva Sevil didn’t waste much time in earning her place in the final as she won her semi-final tie in straight sets.

Results: Boys singles (semi-final): Lewicki Filip (Poland) beat Kaushik Das (India) 6-3, 2-6, 6-3; Adil Hakim (Australia) beat Sklyr Gleb (Israel) 7-6, 6-2.

Girls’ semi-final: Angelika Aliev (Israel) beat Teltumbde Rashmi 6-2, 3-6, 7-5; Alieva Sevil (Azerbaijan) beat Tarimela Nilaya 6-1, 6-2.

Boys doubles semi-final: Navin Sai and Shahbaaz Khan (India) beat Amir Dor (Israel) and Gamazov Genia (Australia) 7-5, 6-1; S Piotr and M Adam (Poland) beat Monal Chillar and Kaushik Das (India) 6-4, 7-6.

Girls doubles semi-final: S Valentina ( Kazaksthan) and Sevil Aleiva (Azerbaijan) beat Olga Blank and Morag Ofir (Israel) 1-6, 6-4, 6-3; Angelika Aliev and Margarita Skripnik (Israel) beat Aishwarya Agrawal and Rashmi Teltumbde (India) 2-6, 6-0,6-4.

Indian Oil ITF Junior Tennis

Kaushik, Treta upset seeded players:

Guwahati, Nov 27: Kaushik Das of Assam caused another upset in the ongoing Indian Oil ITF Junior Tennis Championship at Chachal (All Assam Tennis Association) Tennis Complex here on the second day on Tuesday.

Kaushik defeated third seeded country mate Palash Tiwari 6-3, 6-3 in a second round match while Treta Bhattacharya stunned second seed Margarita Skripnik of Israel 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. However, other seeded players in both boys and girls section entered the third round with comprehensive victories against their opponents.

It was a mix day for Assam players as apart from Kaushik, other challengers, Rupam Gogoi and Anangsha Alomyan lost their battles against Gleb Sklyr of Israel and Richa Valecha respectively. Later fourth seed Olga Blank of Israel outplayed Richa 6-1, 6-1.

The boys second seed Adil Hakeem of Australia had an easy sail to the round three as he outsmarted Indian challenge Shahbaz Khan 6-1, 6-0. But the girls top seed Angelika Aliev of Israel had to struggle against Shweta Rana as the former won the match 6-9 (7-4), 6-3, 6-1. The experienced Israeli girl put up a spirited show in the second and third sets after losing the first one against her Indian counterpart.

The doubles matches were also started today.
