SAI Sports Club beat Green Valley 1-0 in inaugural match:
Nov 8: SAI Sports Club moved into the next round of the 56th Bordoloi Trophy football tournament defeating Green Valley Sports Club by a solitary goal in the inaugural tie at Guwahati’s Nehru Stadium today (Nov 8).
In a mediocre encounter, the all-important goal of the match was scored by Santosh Chutia in the fourth minute of the game.
Santosh, who missed a golden opportunity in the second minute of the game, headed in corner kick taken by Jibeswar Boro.
In the second half, Green Valley came near to scoring the equaliser but Abhijit Nandy missed the target. Their Nigerian striker Abraham Goodluck created several openings combining with Daithun Basumatary and Saurav Ghosh, but the SAI defence line, led Raju Basumatary, foiled all the Green Valley moves.
Asom Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the tournament and the organizers -- Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) – which is celebrating its golden jubilee year, felicitated veterans like Ananda Lahkar, Badal Thakur, Tayabun Nesa, Mukut Medhi, Binoy Medhi, Dipankar Bhattacharya, Bijoy Hazarika, Ranjit Singh, Zakir Ahmed, Dipu Choudhury, Tarini Barman, Pulin Das and Nripendra Narayan Singha.
A march past competition for the school children was organised to mark the opening ceremony where seven schools of the city took part.
Meanwhile, Tata Tea has also come forward to become one of the sponsors of the meet. The company will provide Rs 2 lakh to the GSA for organising the meet.
Match on Nov 8:: City Police vs New Model Club; Udalguri, FCISC vs 2nd ASRF (kick-off at 2 pm).
