Sir Churachand Football Tournament

USA, NEROCA in 51st CC Meet Quarter-finals:

Imphal, Nov 29: USA, Khurai and NEROCA, Laipham Khunou, completed the quarter final line-up of the 51st CC Meet football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung here.

In all eight teams have advanced to the last eight stage where they will be joined by reigning champion SSU (Singjamei), runners-up Nagaland Police (NP) and Assam's Green Valley.

The last league phase matches played today ended with USA defeating YAC, Yaiskul 3-1 to advance as Group G topper while NEROCA crushed KRYP-SA, Naoremthong, by half a dozen goals without reply.

With group G tantalisingly poised after TRAU's 2-0 win over the Yaiskul side and 0-0 draw with USA earlier in the competition, USA needed an outright win with no less than two goals difference which they eventually acheived.

After S Surchandra provided the breakthrough in the 43rd minute and Y Hemanta's goal four minutes later seem to have cleared USA's passage into the quarter finals, YAC's Somatai Shaiza delayed the rivals' celebration with a 62nd minute goal.

However, M Ibochouba sealed USA's place four minutes from time.

on the otherhand, NEROCA endured no tension against KRYPSA as the former frequently breached the rivals' defenceline who are yet to score a point in the competition.

NEROCA, however, had to beat their last Group H opponent with a huge margin as the other team in the cluster MBSU had held NEROCA 1-1 and defeated KRYPSA 3-1.
Ostensibly aware of the group's arithmetic, NEROCA began on an attacking mode and opened the score only three minutes into the game through T Ajitkumar before goals from Ksh Malemnganba (6th), H Chakravarti (9th) and L Nabachandra (10th) cushioned the lead to 4-0. H Romen added to the Naoremthong misery with a 30th minute goal before Malemnganba found his second of the match two minutes later to take the match KRYPSA's reach.

In quarter-final matches tomorrow, NP will face YWC at 12.05 pm while NISA play ESU at 1.45 pm.
