Kaushik’s dream run continues:
Guwahati, Nov 28: Asom lad Kaushik Das continued his dream run in the Indian Oil ITF World Junior Ranking Tennis Championship springing another upset here today.
On this occasion, Kaushik beat Amir Dor of Israel and earned a semi-final berth.
In the boys’ quarter-final, Kaushik appeared to be in very good touch to beat Dor in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
With Kaushik’s victory, Indian hope continues to be alive in the boys’ section as all the other players from the host country have already bowed out of the tournament.
However, in the girls’ section, two Indian players -- Nilaya Tarimal and Rashmi Teltumbde -- earned semi-final berths in the Championship. Nilaya defeated Treta Bhattacharya 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 while Rashmi fought hard to beat Valentina Starkova 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
Today’s results: Boys’ singles (quarter-final): Filip Lewicki (Poland) beat Gema Gamazov (Israel) 6-4, 2-6, 6-2; Kaushik Das beat Amir Dor (Israel) 6-3,6-4; Gleb Sklyr (Israel) beat Jugal Marfatia (India) 6-4,6-3 and Adil Hakeem (Australia) beat Amir Zari (Israel) 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Girls’ singles (quarter-final): Angelika Aliev (Israel) beat Ofir Morag (Israel) 6-2, 6-1; Sevil Alieva (Aze) beat Olga Blank (Israel) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3; Nilaya Tarimal (India) beat Treta Bhattacharya (India) 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 and Rashmi Teltumbde (India) beat Valentina Starkova 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
