World Military Games champion's homecoming


Narjit accorded a hero's welcome:

Nov 3: World Military Games boxing champion Pukhrambam Narjit was accorded a hero's welcome by the people of Manipur when he arrived home today.

Narjit clinched gold in 54kg category in the 4th World Military Games held at Hyderabad from October 14 to 21. He was given a warm reception at the Imphal Tulihal Airport.

Apart from the jostling flag-waving massive crowd that waited for him with garlands in hands at the Airport, people from all walks of life came out to greet him all along the road through which the vehicle carrying Narjit passed through before being taken to his birthplace Nambol Sabal Leikai where a mass reception function was organised in his honour at the local Public Hall.

The reception function was organised jointly by Nambol Sabal Leikai Youth Club and Library and Armstrong Boxing Association.

Born on May 1, 1985, Pukhrambam Narjit is the third son of Pukhrambam Joychandra and Pukhrambam Ongbi Nalini of Nambol Sabal Leikai.

He is presently working as an ASI in 11 Gorkha Regimental Centre.

Narjit had won many medals in various championships. He won the Silver medal in the 1st Inter Zonal Boxing Championship held in Mumbai in 2005 and Gold in the 54 weight category in the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Federation Cup held at Hyderabad in May 2006. He also won a Silver at the 29th King' Cup held at Bangkok from April 4 to 11 this year.
