Assam’s Mahasweta clinches title:

Guwahati, Dec 16: After a long gap, one Assam girl Mahasweta Batsallya won the title in the National School Games Table Tennis Championship.

Mahasweta won the U-14 girls’ title in the National School Games which was held at Aizwal from December 11 to 14.

In the girls singles final, Mahasweta, a student of the Anand Academy, Dispur, defeated Srenaj Chipia of Gujarat 4-3. However, Assam girls’ team went down to Gujarat in the title clash 2-3.

In the boys section, Assam could not do well in both U-14 and U-17 groups as the state boys were eliminated from the pre-quarter final and the quarter final stages.

National School Games Football

Manipur beaten by Andaman in penalty shootout in final:

Imphal, Dec 12: Manipur went down to hosts Andaman and Nicobar Islands 7-6 in sudden death in the final of the 53rd National School Games (Under-17) Football competition on Wednesday.

After the regulation period ended with neither team scoring, tie-break was applied which also remained tied at 3-3 before the hosts ultimately prevailed in the sudden death.

Manipur had entered the summit round after a solitary goal win over Delhi.

53rd National School Games Football

Manipur to meet hosts Andaman in final:

Imphal, Dec 11: Manipur defeated Delhi 1-0 on Tuesday to set up summit clash against Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the 53rd National School Games for Under-17 Boys Football Tournament on Wednesady.

In the first semi-final played on Tuesday at Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Jamkholimang scored Manipur’s match-winner in the opening minute of the game.

The hosts later blanked Tripura 2-0 in the other semi-finals.

6th Junior Girls National Football

Manipur girls finish runners-up:

Imphal, Dec 7: Manipur suffered 0-1 loss to Orissa in the final of the 6th Junior Girls National Football Championship at Dindigul in Tamil Nadu on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the 53rd National School Games U-17 Football for boys, Manipur defeated Goa 2-0 on Friday. Manipur boys had earlier (on December 5) humbled Rajasthan 5-0.

Manipur will play Kerala on Saturday.

National School Games (Under-17) Volleyball

Manipur, Delhi, Orissa make it to quarter-finals:

Dehradun, Nov 28 : Manipur, Delhi and Orissa sailed into the quarter-finals of the 53rd National School Games (Under-17) Volleyball tournament on Wednesday.

Manipur won a close contest against Rajasthan 18-25, 25-19, 25-11 to make it to the last eight while Delhi defeated IPSC in straight sets 25-15, 25-12 and Orissa excelled over Assam 25-23, 25-12 in the boy’s category.

Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are the other teams to enter the quarter-finals in the boy’s section.

Haryana and Punjab topped Group A with 10 points each, Uttarakhand and Delhi topped Group B with 12and 10 points respectively. In Group C Uttar Pradesh (10 points) and Orissa (8 points) topped the chart, and Manipur (8) and Rajasthan (6) qualified from Group D.

In the quarter-finals, Haryana will clash with Orissa, UP would meet Punjab, Uttarakhand will face Rajasthan and Manipur would take on Delhi on November 29 (Thursday).

In the girl’s (U-17) category, Kerela, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Delhi and Tamil Nadu reached quarter-finals.

Madhya Pradesh and Himachal excelled in Group A earning 8 and 6 points respectively. In Group B, Punjab (10points) and Haryana (8 points) topped the chart. Karnataka (6) and Rajasthan (4) qualified from Group C and in Group D, Delhi (14) and Tamil Nadu (12) made it to the last eight.

Kerala will face Rajasthan, Karnataka will meet Himachal Pradesh, Punjab will taste Tamil Nadu and Delhi would face Haryana in quarter-finals tomorrow.

National School Games 2007-08

Manipur retain U-19 Girls’ football title:

Nov 17: Manipur retained the Under 19 Girls' football title in the 53rd National School Games 2007-08, which concluded here today at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda in Margao (Goa).

In the final today, Manipur blanked Assam 2-0. N Chanchan Chanu and Naobi Chanu scored for the winners while Assam had to be content with second place.

The Fair play trophy was awarded to Chandigarh while V Jaya Chitra and R Kalpana, both from Tamil Nadu, were adjudged the best goalkeeper and highest scorer respectively.

Kalpana scored 18 goals in the tournament.

Haryana finished third defeating Chandigarh 5-0 in the third place match.
