Mokokchung Motor Rally

Toshi, Mar win Mokokchung rally:

Mokokchung, Nov 29: Toshi Aier and Mar Aier with the Car No. 004 (sponsored by the Phek district) won under the extreme category of the Mokokchung Motor Rally 2007 which concluded on Thursday after a two-day thrilling performance of speed on dirt and tarmac stretching even upto Tuensang district besides covering a major chunk of the district and covering a distance of 229.8 km of competitive length.

Along Aier and Hatpha Car No. 001 were adjudged the 1st runner up while the third place under the extreme category went to Car No. 002 of the duo of L. Imkong Jamir and Imtisupong.

The winners got Rs.50000/- while the second and third places got Rs. 30,000 and 20000 respectively.

In the general category, B. Merangken Lkr and Martoshi with Car No. 025 won while Car No 017 with Longpok Nokdir and Watisungla were in the second place and L. Lanu Jamir and Takotong Lkr with Car No 016 were the third under the general category.

At the Autocross, the fastest run of one kilometer track was accomplished by the duo of Car 004 Toshi Aier and Mar Aier while the second fastest was Along Aier and Hatpha and the third fastest was Car No 022 Tsubusang and Imkongyapang. The winners at the Autocross were also awarded cash prizes.

On the second day of the rally which was flagged off by Er. Lima, E.E PWD (Mechanical) Mokokchung, from Imkongmeren Sports Complex.

The rallyist then proceeded towards Dikhu River and stopped at Chichung river for lunch at the Chichung Café. From there, the route of the rally went upto Chare under Tuensang district and diverted the route towards Mokokchung. After regrouping at Tsusapang gate, the rally ended at Imkongmeren Sports Complex. Day-two of the rally also saw two vehicles retiring midway because technical problem.

Right after this, the "Autocross" section started where the vehicles were made to run a distance of one kilometer each at the fastest time.

The closing function of the rally was graced by Lalhuma, State Chief Secretary as chief guest.

In his address, the chief guest expressed his satisfaction to the MDSC for organizing the Motor Rally and also encouraged them that the same rally be organized the next year also.

He also said that next year, he will also try to extend all possible means to make it into a bigger event. He also opined that next year's rally should be in a larger scale even to the level of National or North East making the entire eight sister states of the North East to participate.

He said that through events, it bonds the people together and that such events should be a carrier of the message 'Peace'. He also gave away the prizes.
