National Women Handball

Championship begins in Guwahati:

Guwahati, Dec 13: Twenty-five teams will be in fray for top honours in the 38th National Women’s Handball Championship which begins here on Thursday.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will formally inaugurate the meet in the evening at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium though matches will start from the morning onwards.

Till Wednesday evening, 12 teams -- Gujarat, Railways, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Uttaranchal, Orissa, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, Manipur and Assam -- have arrived while the other teams are scheduled to arrive on Thursday.

Jharkhand, which earlier had confirmed their participation, withdrew from the meet.
All the teams have been given accommodation at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium. The matches will be played both at the Nehru Stadium and the TR Phookan Indoor Stadium.

The Assam Handball Association president Kalyan Gogoi said all arrangements have been completed to hold the meet in a befitting manner.
