National Sports Climbing Championship

Warm welcome for climbers:

Imphal, Dec. 6: Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports Commissioner Ch. Birendra Singh has urged climbers from the Northeast to work with utmost dedication to take the sport to greater heights.

Speaking at a reception to honour the medallists of the recently-concluded 13th National Sports Climbing Championship at Uttarkashi, Singh said though climbing has not yet become an Olympic event, if it ever does, the climbers from the region must try and bring home the first gold.

He added that one more artificial rock wall would be built inside the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here.

The players from the Northeast fetched six gold, four silver and one bronze to come second at the meet. South Zone were the overall champions.

The gold medallists are S. Devela Devi, Ph. Suchirani Devi, Kh. Dasini Devi and S. Puspakanta Singh from Manipur and Verisa Maring from Meghalaya.

Silver medallists Ph. Suchirani Devi, S. Priyanka Devi, H. Raju Singh and T. Bobo Singh and bronze medallist S. Surchandra Singh, all from Manipur, were also accorded a warm welcome at the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association Complex at Hatta Minuthong yesterday.
