Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland vying for honours:
Dimapur, Dec 10: The 6th North East Free Style Open Martial Arts Championship 2007 got started Monday here at DDSC Stadium with former chief minister Nagaland KL Chishi as chief guest.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Chishi said that martial art was not to be used to threaten any innocent people but to be used as an essentiality in times of adversity.
He also said that though the art is "sometimes observed as a very dreadful and dangerous game" it was primarily a game of self defence.
"The art is not that of weapon, guns and bullets but an art which one acquires, practices to thereby meet the challenges of any adversity in our life", the former chief minister said.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by secretary, organizing committee Kughalu K. Chishi, while Caroline Chishi presented a number and the oath taking was administered by Kahoto Achumi, chief technical director Nagaland Mansurai Kung-fu Association (NMKA). The audience was also thrilled by demonstrations from various teachers and students.
However, Sufi Rajkumar, black belt 6th Dan, Assam amazed the audience with his stunning blindfolded bike ride round the stadium and chopping of cabbage placed on a person's abdomen and on head and later chewed tube lights.
Four states Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland are participating in this championship which is being organized by the Nagaland Mansurai Kung-fu Association (NMKA).
