India-Pak Guwahati ODI

Oct. 28: Nehru Stadium gets face-lift

The Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, which is hosting the first match of the five-game ODI series between India and Pakistan on November 5, is getting a face-lift.

The Board of Sports of Asom, which owns the stadium, has already taken the necessary steps so that it gets ready well before the match.

Board of Sports of Asom is spending Rs 2 lakh to give the stadium a new look. The job included renovation and replacement of different gates of the stadium, renovation of the existing fencing, toilet, water tap while giving a fresh coat of painting at various parts of the stadium.

Police and district administration have instructed to erect extra fencing around the galleries and the same has also been done.

The source added that the gallery number 10, 11 and 12 are the very big gallery and capacity of each gallery is around 2800 to 3000.

As per the instruction of the police and district administration, extra fencing has been placed in big galleries like number 10, 11 and 12 which have around 2800 to 3000 capacity so that they are divided into three parts with each part accommodating around 1000 spectators.

The main idea behind this extra fencing is to control the crowd without much problem if any untoward incident occurs during the course of the match.

Facilities for nonstop supply of drinking water for the crowd inside the stadium have also been made.
