Guwahati ODI: Betting websites having a field day

Oct. 30: Amid excitement in the build-up to the India-Pakistan ODI at Guwahati on November 5, Assam Police have sniffed something beyond the game of cricket. They have been keeping a close watch of local betting rackets.

Some of the websites have already flashed certain facts and figures about the Guwahati ODI, which would be considered by the gamblers before putting the money on anything.

The police have reportedly received a tip-off that certain pockets in and around the city were trying to cash in on the much-awaited ODI by opening betting centers.

The websites, which have already caught the fancy of people in and around the city, are found to be enticing the people towards betting for the Guwahati ODI. These websites are advising people to consider the track records of ODI encounters between the teams before putting their money on anything.

One of the websites -- www.betfair.com -- has flashed certain details about the Guwahati venue including the win and loss percentages, players to bet on and similar other facts and figures to add momentum to the betting racket.

Among the Indian batsmen, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar is being seen as a good prospect on the ground that it could be his last match in Guwahati and also the last series against the arch-rivals.

Pakistan’s skipper Shoaib Malik, who top-scored with 72 runs in the last match played between the two teams on Indian soil, is likely to be a popular option for betting in the ‘Top run scorer’ category.
