Subroto Cup

Nagaland beat Tripura 4-0:

Dimapur, Sep 3: State under 17 (juniors) started their campaign on high note with a victory over Tripura in the ongoing Subroto Cup played at Delhi on Wednesday.

Team manager, Nyuvitho Nyuthe DSO Kiphire said that the state team defeated Tripura 4-0 in their opening match. Hukavi scored two goals while Rokozhaz and Benri contributed one goal each for the team. Two goals were scored in the first half and while the other two were scored in the second half.

The state team representing Modern School New Market, Kohima is placed in pool-D along with Air Force team, Assam, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Sri Lanka. Altogether 32 teams including teams from aboard are taking part in the tournament which is organized by Air Force India and held every year in New Delhi.

It may be mentioned that the state under -17 team was the runners-up in 2004. Earlier, the state team was scheduled to play their opening match against Sri Lanka on September 2, but the match was postponed as the Lankan team could not reach the venue on the scheduled day. The match will be played on September 7. On September 4 (Thursday) state team will take on Uttarakhand.
A sixteen member state under 14 (sub juniors) led by team manager, Yanthan, DSO Wokha and team coach, Mughato will be leaving for Delhi on September 5 to take part in the Subroto Cup at Delhi. Last year runners-up, state under-14 team is representing Green Wood School, Dimapur.

Seeded directly in pre-quarter finals the state team will play their opening match against the winners of group B on September 10.

State u-14 squad: Vekuto, Pusu, Vishio, Akok, Imti Wapang, Taliakum, Tsiebu, Veluto, Lunminlan, Nyhunhelo, Tiatoshi, Lusinei, Moakumzuk, Tingnyek, Wasadplung and Akalu.

Meanwhile, making an impressive start to the tournament, OM Roy Memorial Secondary School from Meghalaya won its first league match in Under-14 Subroto Mukherjee Cup by defeating host school from Delhi 2-0 on Wednesday. OM Roy opened the scoring in the 18th minute through a goal scored by Walamsuk Nongkhlaw, while Tyng-shain Umdor scored the second goal in the 46th minute to ensure OM Roy win the match by 2-0 goals. OM Roy will play its second match with a school from Chattisgarh on Thursday.

Dr. T. Ao Nagaland Inter-District Football

Mokokchung win Dr. T. Ao Trophy:

Dimapur, Dec 14: Mokokchung beat Dimapur 2-0 to lift the 17th Dr. T. Ao Inter District Football Championship at Wokha on Friday.

Lipok and Toshi of Mokokchung scored the winning goals.

Asian of Dimapur received the highest goal of the tournament award.

Dr. T Ao Nagaland Inter-district Football

Dimapur, Mokokchung in final:

Dimapur, Dec 12: Dimapur beat Kohima via tie-breaker in the first semi-final of Dr. T Ao Football tournament, while Mokokchung beat Wokha 2-1 in the second semi-final at Wokha on Wednesday.

Kobou of Kohima drew first blood in the 53rd minute and Kenjung of Dimapur equalized with a powerful header form Jonpong's cross in the 55th minute.

In the tie breaker, Dimapur edged out Kohima.

In the second semi-final, Lipok of Mokokchung opened the score in the 5th minute, but Chenithung equalized for Wokha in the 15th minute.

Lipok scored again in the 35th minute to take Mokokchung into the final.

Kohima and Wokha will meet on Thursday for the third place.

Dr T Ao Nagaland Inter-district Football

Mokokchung defeat Tuensang:

Dimapur, Dec 8: Mokokchung defeated Tuensang 3-0 in the sole match of the day in Dr T Ao Inter-district Football tournament at Wokha on Saturday.

Akum of Mokokchung scored the first goal in the 12th Minutes of the game. Lipok and Saku added to the tally in the 26th and 75th minutes respectively.

Wokha vs Kiphire; Kohima vs Tuensang; Dimapur vs Phek

Dr. T Ao Nagaland Inter District Football

Phek, Dimapur register wins:

Dimapur, Dec 7: Phek DFA humbled Kiphire District 6-0 in the 17th Dr T Ao Inter District Football Tournament at local ground Wokha on Friday.

The first goal for Phek came from Vesuhu, the captain of the side in the ninth minute.
Verazo added the second goal in the 48th minute, Sathose in 52nd, 61st and 77th minutes.

In the second match of the day, Dimapur DFA defeated Wokha DSA 2-0. Mangal scored the first goal in the 26th minute and Asian doubled the score in the 66th minute.

Dr. T Ao Nagaland Inter District Football

Dimapur blank Kiphire, Mokokchung draw Kohima:

Dimapur, Dec 6: Dimapur blanked Kiphire 5-0 while Mokokchung draw Kohima on the second day of Dr. T Ao Inter District Trophy at Wokha on Thursday.

In the first match, Muktar scored for Dimapur in the 45th and 50th minutes after which Asian, Kenjung and Mangai scored one goal each to take the tally to 5-0.

The second match between Kohima and Mokokchung ended in a draw

Dr. T Ao Nagaland Inter-district Football

Wokha beat Phek 3-1 in tournament opener:

Dimapur, Dec 5: Wokha district beat Phek district 3-1 in the inaugural match of the 17th Dr. T Ao inter-district football tournament, which got underway on Wednesday at Wokha.

Phek team captain Vesuhu scored the first goal of the tournament, while Nyanthung found the net for Wokha in the sixteenth minute. The second and third goals for Wokha came through the boots of Yapang.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) Vice-president Atuo Mezhur, who inaugurated the tournament, in his address said the Naga youths have the talent to excel even in the national football arena.

He said some 20 Naga boys were presently playing with different clubs in India. Mezhur also conveyed gratitude to the chief minister for providing site for construction of "our own stadium."

DC Wokha Mikha Lomi, who is also chairman of Wokha District Sports Council, touched on the performance and main events in the life of the legendary Naga footballer late Dr. T Ao who captained India in Olympic Games.

Golf Course in Kohima:

October 28: Golf is fast becoming popular in others parts of the country. However, it is yet to catch up in Nagaland due to lack of facilities, but not any more now.

Castle’ AR Golf course was opened by Major General K S Sethi, IGAR (N) on October 28 in the presence of many senior civil and military dignitaries. Incidentally this is the only golf course in Kohima area.

It was the endeavour of HQ 5 Sector Assam Rifles to carve out and establish a golf course in the beautiful surroundings of Chiesema bowl, located on Wokha road approximately 13 Kms from the state capital.

While playing at the golf course one can enjoy the beauty of Zaphu and Lotha mountain ranges, look into Zubza valley and the River and the Northern ridge leading to Kohima.

While designing and developing the golf course, the aspect of arboriculture has also been given its due importance and accordingly flower and fruit bearing plants have been planted in large numbers.

The Castle' AR Golf Course is spread over an area of approx 20 acres. The greens can be played in different combinations for thrill and enjoyment of the players. The opening of the golf course will not only enable the enthusiasts of the game to enjoy playing but will also contribute towards enhancing the tourist potential of the state in future.

Dimapur district overall team champion:
Oct 26: Dimapur district emerged the overall team champion, athletics team champion as well as football (men) champion at the Inter-District Catch Them Young Football and Athletic Tournament 2007, which concluded at Indira Gandhi Stadium here today.

Winning 5 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze in athletics, Dimapur district was declared the athletics team champion while Phek district winning 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze has been declared athletics team runners-up.

In an exciting football final match, Dimapur district blanked Peren District 5-0 and walked away with a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 along with trophy and certificates. Peren District pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, besides its player Poudingai being declared the best player.

Vesatha of Phek district who bagged 2 Gold and Ngulieneinuo of Dimapur district who won 2 Gold and 1 Silver were declared best athletes among boys and girls respectively.
