56th Bordoloi Trophy at Guwahati

Thailand’s Port Authority thrash FCISC 7-0:

Nov 17: Port Authority of Thailand, Bangkok, started their campaign in the 56th Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament in style thrashing Food Corporation of India Sports Club 7-0 in a quarter-final group league match at the Nehru Stadium.

Returning to the city after a long gap, Port Authority dished out top quality football and they could have won the match by a much bigger margin if they had not missed a few opportunities.

The match started with the Thai outfit taking just 13 minutes to break the defence of FCISC and Wezrapong Sripech scored the first goal for his side.

Port Authority added three more in the first half through K Buransuk, Ekachai Preechakul and P Kuldilok.

In the second half too, the Thai side maintained the same momentum and pumped in three more goals through Wittrya Nontalee, Aboubakar Salifou Bako and Nirsot Kamsawad.

56th Bordoloi Trophy from Nov 8

Nov 7: The 56th edition of the Bordoloi Trophy will get underway with a match between Green Valley Sports Club and SAISC at Nehru Stadium at Guwahati on Thursday (Nov 8).

The Gauhati Sports Association (GSA), which is celebrating its golden jubilee year, has decided to revive the Bordoloi Trophy. As part of its plans, the GSA has invited two foreign teams -- Port Authority of Thailand and Abahani Limited, Bangladesh -- to add vigour to the prestigious tournament, which, many believe, is losing its prestige among the people.

The two teams will be seen in action along with other leading clubs of the country, including Vasco Sports Club, Goa, and other outfits from the North-east.

GSA will also felicitate all former presidents and secretaries along with a few veteran players, organizers and officials during the inaugural function tomorrow.

Dignitaries to be felicitated during the inaugural function are: Niloy Dutta and Rana Goswami (former presidents); Chitta Ranjan Bhowmick, Prasanna Kalita, Munin Nabis and Dipak Hazarika (former secretaries); Badal Thakur (cricket), Ananda Laskar (football), Pulin Das (sports scribe), NN Singh (soccer referee), Dipu Choudhury (commentator), Zakir Ahmed (sports organizer), Binoy Medhi (volleyball), Bijoy Hazarika (table tennis), Tarani Barman (sports photographer), Ranjit Singh (hockey), Tayabun Nessa (athletics), Mukut Medhi (basketball) and Dipankar Bhattacharjee (badminton).
