Four NE players rub shoulders with Oliver Kahn:

Two Mizos and two Manipuris had the opportunity to play against legendary German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn in his last competitive match on May 27 at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
Lukram James Singh, Sagolsem James Singh, Henry Gangte and Pachau Lalam Puia donned Mohun Bagan colours in their match against the famous Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.
In the first half, Sagolsem James Singh wasted an easy chance off the corner kick of Lal Kamal Bhowmick and Lalam Puia shot straight into Kahn a minute before the breather. Bayern won the match 3-0 and Kahn was given a standing ovation by more than a lakh crowd when he left the field after being substituted in the 56th minute.
Mohun Bagan skipper Baichung Bhutia missed the match and the Sikkimese sniper was playing as captain for India against Chinese Taipei in an international friendly in Chennai today (May 27).

AFC Under-16 Football Qualifiers

Mizo boy stars in India’s win:

Nov 5: Mizoram boy Malsawmfela scored a brace as India took a big step towards qualification for the AFC Under-16 football tournament with a 3-0 victory over hosts Saudi Arabia at Dammam.

Malsawmfela scored in the 42th and 50th minutes while Lalrindika Ralte added a third in the 65th minute at the Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad Stadium to put it across a team which had won their first three matches in Group C.

With just one match left for the six teams in the group, India have 10 points from four games and are second in the group behind Iraq on goal difference. Saudi Arabia have nine points.

India play their final group on November 7 against Bhutan, who have lost all their matches so far, and should be favourites to seal a place in next year's main tournament.

The Himalayan kingdom lost 1-4 to Lebanon while Iraq beat Sri Lanka 7-0. A draw should be enough for India to go through.

Another factor in India's favour is that Saudi Arabia and Iraq will face off in the final pool match and one team is bound to lose points from the game.
