Corporate Sector to Promote sports

Meghalaya State Academy on cards:
Shillong: In what can be termed as a major boost towards the progress and development of various sports activities in the State, the State government is planning to set up a full fledged State Sports Academy at four acres land at Umsawli, New Shillong.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh, while giving this piece of information, said that the total expenses for construction of the sports academy would be sponsored by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
"The CII came out with this proposal to the State government somewhere last year. We have identified the proposed land to set up the academy", Mr Lyngdoh said, adding that there are a few formalities left to be fulfilled before the construction of the academy takes off.
He believes that this academy would be a major boost for the progress of sports activities in the State.
The Sports and Youth Affairs Minister also said that the academy would provide trainings and conditioning camps for athletes in different fields. "However, we would concencrate more on football", he remarked.
